A Hauntingly Good Time: Halloween Margaritas at Chula’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

Margaritas are a crowd-pleaser any time of year. As Halloween approaches, it’s the perfect opportunity to add a spooky twist to this classic cocktail! Originally created in the 1930s or ’40s, the margarita was born from a mix of Mexican tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau or Triple Sec. While its origins are as spirited as the drink itself, the margarita has continued to evolve. Inspiring bold flavors, colors, and styles around the world.

This Halloween, Chula’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina is sharing a deliciously eerie margarita recipe to impress your guests. With a deep, haunting hue and a dash of mystique, this recipe is sure to liven up your Halloween gatherings.

The Midnight Margarita Recipe

Ingredients

2 oz silver tequila

1 oz fresh lime juice

1 oz blackberry liqueur (or substitute with blue curaçao for a different spooky shade)

½ oz agave syrup or simple syrup

Ice

Black lava salt for rimming the glass (optional)

Fresh blackberries or lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

Rim the Glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip it in black lava salt for a spooky touch.

Shake It Up: In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, lime juice, blackberry liqueur, and agave syrup. Fill with ice and shake vigorously until well mixed.

Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish: Add a few fresh blackberries or a lime wedge on top for a Halloween-ready look.

This “Midnight Margarita” is a hauntingly beautiful blend of dark berries and lime that balances sweet and sour flavors with a rich, eerie color perfect for the season.

Take It Up a Notch with Spooky Punch

Want to make things even more magical? Prepare this margarita in a large punch bowl before your guests arrive, so they can help themselves as the night unfolds. To make it truly spine-chilling, add a small block of dry ice to the punch bowl just before guests arrive. The misty fog will create a dramatic effect and set the perfect Halloween vibe!

Note: Ensure that no one consumes or touches the dry ice directly. Place it in a separate compartment within the bowl if possible, and once it’s fully dissipated, your spooky punch will be good to go!
